Captain's Corner

Fishing has been exceptional for the past week. We targeted kingfish for most of the week, with success. The fish were ranging from 6 to 30 pounds. They were congregated in large schools, and we found them in 30 to 70 feet of water.

It was easy to get them to bite.

Kings have been migrating for hundreds of miles, so their appe tites are large. For bait, we used mostly threadfin herring and cigar minnows. They were accessible by drifting a mile or so outside the pass, over the sandy bottom.

We used gold-hook bait

rigs to load the wells. We also got a few fish on blue runners. Bonuses to the king action were barracuda and cobia. These results will only improve after each weather system goes by.
